Description of Event
The beneficial use of high-volume, low-hazard industrial byproducts is expanding, with a number of applications gaining market and regulator acceptance. However, the question of whether these byproducts can be recycled in an environmentally and economically sound manner is currently an impediment to further development and expansion of the practice.
Come listen and participate with representatives from the private sector, reuse and recycling community, non-profit organizations, trade associations, researchers, local, state and federal government agencies.
Purpose of Summit
The 2006 Byproducts Beneficial Use Summit is designed to exchange information about beneficial use and to provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas between regulators and industry players.
The Summit supports discussions: (a) between industry and regulators to increase the understanding of industrial byproducts and regulatory programs; (b) among state regulators to share information and experiences on beneficial use regulations and determination processes; and (c) among industries to share experiences on navigating the regulator process and to assess the potential to utilize each other's byproducts and (d) among researchers, nonprofit reps and industries to share information and concerns regarding risk assessment, beneficial use determinations and environmental safety.
Benefits
This conference allows regulators and industry players to:
Exchange ideas about beneficial use
Learn from case studies
Learn about the status of government program
Get "face-time" with regulators
Due to the excellent networking opportunity the Summit provides, satellite events are common. This year is no exception!
A half day session on the beneficial use of byproducts in soil applications will be held on December 1, 2006. Please note
that a separate registration is necessary for this extra event as it is not part of the Summit. Please see the agenda
